Friend, White nationalists are no longer operating in the shadows. They are in positions of power, influencing policy, and fueling a surge of hate and discrimination against communities across our country. As you know, the Southern Poverty Law Center has been tracking and exposing the rise of far-right hate and extremism for decades. But today, the threat is greater than ever. The far right is emboldened and working to dismantle the very foundations of our democracy. And as the SPLC Intelligence Project’s reporting shows, the number of white nationalist groups active in the U.S. jumped by 50 percent in one year, reaching an all-time high of 165. It’s not just the number of white nationalist groups that’s so alarming: it’s their level of organization, their penchant for violence, their strategic alliances with other hate groups and their key role in our country’s political turn to hard-right authoritarianism.
