I hope you read my statement earlier this week in response to the civil unrest sweeping the nation.

We are sickened and appalled by the inhumanity we have witnessed in the recent deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery.

As you already know, the National Urban League are civil rights leaders committed to racial justice so we share the heartbreak and anguish from protestors of the communities where uprisings have turned violent.

And now the callous response from the authorities who shrugged in the face of evil have magnified disparities.

As the impact of these injustices continues to overwhelm the Black community, the system continues to fail us with unequal and insufficient action. That is why we need your urgent support today.

NUL has already proposed recommendations for police reform and accountability. These include the widespread use of body cameras and dashboard cameras, revision of use-of-force policies, officer training and hiring standards, and the immediate appointment of independent prosecutors to investigate police misconduct.
