Team:

A few weeks ago, we sent you a message about a nationwide voter suppression bill that extremist politicians are trying to pass through Congress.

But there’s another alarming dimension to this threat: lawmakers around the country are moving forward with state-level versions of this legislation.

Quick recap: the SAVE Act could disenfranchise millions of Americans — disproportionately hurting young people, low-income people, communities of color, rural residents, and women.

How? By requiring people to prove their citizenship with documents like passports or birth certificates before registering to vote or updating their registration.

Millions of Americans either don’t have or can’t easily access those documents. And as many as 69 million women in America who changed their names when they got married wouldn't be able to verify their citizenship with birth certificates that don’t have those new names.

If this law gets through Congress, it could block millions of eligible Americans from voting.

But even if it doesn't pass in Washington, lawmakers in 23 states are trying to pass their own versions of this unnecessary, harmful bill.

We’re raising the alarm and fighting back.

At Fair Fight Action, we’re connecting the dots between these threats to our freedoms as they pop up in state capitols around the country. And we’re working alongside partners to stop this type of dangerous legislation in its tracks.

But we’re counting on grassroots support to make sure all voters can make their voices heard in our democracy. Will you make a donation of $25 or any amount today? [[link removed]]

Let’s be clear: there’s no need for burdensome new requirements for voters to verify their citizenship.

It’s already against the law for people who aren’t citizens to vote. False claims about this have been widely debunked, and these bills can fan the flames of those conspiracy theories — which sets the stage for future attempts to overturn free and fair elections.

Legislation like this can also end mail-in and online voter registration, ban third-party registration drives, and upend automatic voter registration.

Lawmakers should be focusing on solving real problems in people’s lives — not making it harder for everyone to have an equal say in our elections, and not creating new barriers for communities that already have unequal access to the ballot box.

We are pushing back against this new wave of anti-voter legislation — analyzing and shining a light on the harm these bills could cause, building public pressure, and ensuring Americans have accurate information about their rights and registration requirements.

Please chip in right now to help defeat new attempts at voter suppression and help protect the freedom to vote. [[link removed]]
