It has started, John: The Department of Justice (DOJ) has given the Attorney General sole authority to start restoring gun rights to prohibited individuals — including individuals convicted of violent felonies and domestic abuse.
This deadly decision comes on the heels of a DOJ attorney being fired after refusing to restore gun rights to actor Mel Gibson who was convicted of domestic abuse. It also comes on the heels of President Trump’s February 7th executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to review all firearm-related measures implemented under the Biden administration and deliver a “proposed plan of action” within 30 days to protect against supposed “infringements” on Second Amendment rights.
The Trump administration’s actions this week are a dangerous sign of what lies ahead. Just as was promised in Trump’s Project 2025 [[link removed]] , his administration is forging ahead dismantling life-saving gun violence prevention policies, putting us all in danger.
President Trump claims to be “tough on crime,” but in reality, he is showing that he is soft on crime, arming individuals deemed too dangerous to possess firearms, and is more than happy to do the gun lobby’s bidding.
This is not the future we, nor the majority of Americans, want. In fact, President Trump’s gun agenda is so dangerously misguided that only 2% of Trump voters think it should be a priority. Americans across the political spectrum agree that more guns in the hands of traffickers and violent criminals does not make us safer.
We cannot let the Trump administration continue to quietly undermine the gun safety measures we have fought so hard to put in place to protect ourselves, our families, and our communities. We need to get loud. We need to be angry. And we need to demand an America free from gun violence.
Will you contact your lawmakers today and demand that they do not let President Trump restore gun rights for prohibited gun purchasers? [[link removed]]

Take Action: Attend a Town Hall Near You!
[link removed] [[link removed]]
Do you want to make your voice heard, friend? Do you have questions for your Congressional members? Want to demand your leaders fight back against efforts to dismantle gun safety? Then use our new toolkit to advocate for gun violence prevention and attend a town hall or event near you!
Throughout the year, members of Congress spend dedicated time in the districts and states they represent. These are prime opportunities to ask what they are doing to combat gun violence in your community and how they will protect existing gun safety measures. Congressional members are scheduled to be in their home states and districts April 11-27. This gives us all time to make a plan to attend or request a town hall and ask lawmakers directly how they are working to end gun violence — a public health crisis that takes the lives of tens of thousands of people each year.
Check out our toolkit now to learn how to find a town hall, how to ask questions, and what to do if your representative isn’t holding one [[link removed]] .

ICYMI: Brady’s “Building A Future Without Gun Violence” Conference in LA!
[link removed] [[link removed]]
This week, Brady hosted [[link removed]] our “Building A Future Without Gun Violence” conference in Los Angeles, CA! We convened dozens of grassroots activists and local community groups to share equitable, data-driven approaches to reduce the flow of crime guns in California.
Among our many speakers and subject-matter experts were:
* Former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, who shared his story of losing a loved one to gun violence, and addressed the root causes of this epidemic.
* Anthony Smith of Cities United and Christian Heyne of Brady spoke on strengthening collaboration between the gun violence prevention and community violence intervention movements.
* San Diego Councilmember Marni Von Wilpert, Brady Senior Program and Policy Manager Stephen Lidley, and Therese Hymer of San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention discussed how we can ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly to purchase firearms from local governments.
* Youth activists of Team ENOUGH, Youth ALIVE!, and Teens on Target talked about young people’s role in the movement to end gun violence.
Attendees also got the chance to hear about innovative tools to reduce gun homicides, how to use California gun trace data to identify problematic gun dealers, and so much more. It was an inspiring conference filled with advocates who were ready to use their voices and the skills they learned to enact change in their communities.

VICTORY: Florida Court Upholds Life-Saving Law to Keep Guns Out of the Hands of Minors
We have some GOOD news to share out of Florida, friend:
Just last week, a federal appeals court upheld a life-saving law requiring individuals to be 21 years old to purchase a firearm. This important ruling will keep firearms out of the hands of youth and sets a precedent for other courts ruling on age minimums. Brady Legal filed multiple amicus briefs in this case.
This victory is particularly special because we at Brady fought tooth and nail to establish age minimums on firearm purchases in the wake of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. We know that young people, especially young men like the one who carried out the Parkland attack, make up a large percentage of all mass shooters.
In fact, six of the nine deadliest mass shootings from 2018 to 2022 were carried out by individuals under 21. Age restrictions are an essential safeguard to prevent these devastating tragedies.
But we know the gun lobby will not stop trying to undo the hard fought victories we and our grassroots activists have achieved. Even now, lawmakers in Florida are trying to pass a new law to lower the firearm purchasing age, making it more important than ever that we keep the pressure on lawmakers to protect these laws that courts have found constitutional.
Brady won’t stop fighting for our communities. But we need your help. Consider donating today to our fight and supporting Brady with a gift. [[link removed]]

Wendi Winters and her youngest daughter, Summerleigh Winters Geimer
This week, in recognition of Women’s History Month, we are featuring Wendi Winters, a seasoned journalist and community reporter, an American Red Cross volunteer, and a loving mom of four.
Wendi was 65 when a gunman attacked the offices of the Capital Gazette on June 28, 2018 – one of the deadliest attacks on journalists in American history. In the days that followed, stories of Wendi's heroism spread. Her community told stories not just of her actions in charging the shooter to protect her colleagues, but of her lifetime of service to her family and community.
In the aftermath of her mother’s death, Summerleigh, Wendi’s youngest daughter, turned towards activism, sharing her experiences dealing with grief, the trial, gun violence, and gun violence prevention efforts online.
In honor of Wendi and the life she deserved to live, join us in listening to Summerleigh on our podcast as she talks about her mother, the shooting, and what it’s like to live with the grief of losing a loved one to gun violence. [[link removed]]
