Hi friend,

I hope you had a fun St. Patrick’s Day with family and friends! ☘️ I was able to take a break from the craziness in Washington to help serve beer at Keegan Ales, right in my hometown of Kingston. I had a blast, getting to literally serve my constituents!! 😂

[link removed] [[link removed]]I wanted to let you know our next Patriot Planning Zoom Call will be on April 7th at 5pm. Thank you to everyone who has joined me for our monthly Zoom sessions. I’ve really enjoyed hearing from folks about their questions and perspectives and I think we’ve been able to discuss meaningful ideas for how to keep the faith and keep up the fight during these dark times. You can sign up here. [[link removed]]

This week, I want to talk about the latest attacks on Social Security by DOGE and the Trump administration and what I and other fellow Democrats are doing to fight back and protect essential services under attack.

What's going on

Hudson Valley

Last week, Republicans put forward a Trump-backed partisan funding bill that will directly harm our communities. I’m sure this is something you’ve all been tracking closely, so I’ll get right to the point. [link removed] [[link removed]]What I’m doing: To be very clear, I STRONGLY voted against this bill. Not only was this our first big leverage point to fight back against Trump and Musk, but the bill also is horrendous for Hudson Valley families. A few quick examples:

* Alongside all three of our Sheriffs (of both parties!), I fought to get local law enforcement the resources they need to do their jobs. Yet every public safety project in our district was cut from the bill.
*
* I worked hand-in-hand with the Port Jervis, Poughkeepsie, and Arlington Fire Departments to get them what they needed, be it new trucks or renovations to 100+ year old stations. All three Fire Departments were cut from the funding bill, completely.
*
* We had everything ready to get clean drinking water to Cornwall, New Paltz, and Middletown. HISTORIC stuff. None of this is partisan. It isn't even remotely political! But that funding is also gone.

What you can do: Every member of Congress is legally required to have the Community Projects they nominated on their website. Just as a random example, here is the list for my neighboring Congressman. Just google your Representative and then type in “community projects,” it should come up. ALL but one Republican voted for this bill, and we need to get the word out that they are DIRECTLY hurting their constituents.

New York

[link removed] [[link removed]]We’ve got an affordability crisis in New York. From attacks on Social Security, which risk the stability of our seniors’ retirement, to the reversal of critical housing funding, leading to an explosion in housing costs which put kids and veterans on the street, to a 25% tax on people with across-the-board tariffs, actions by the new Trump administration have made a bad economic situation worse.

What I’m doing: This week I held a “kitchen table” conversation with constituents impacted by Trump’s economic agenda. Farmers with cancelled USDA loans. Diner owners getting crushed by the cost of eggs. Small business owners drowning under the weight of tariffs. As always, the goal was to elevate the voices of our community first and foremost, and then to push that coverage as widely as possible. I also introduced my own, forward-looking plan, in the form of my “Affordability Agenda.”

What you can do: There are so many fights right now, but I truly believe that the battle that is both the most convincing and the most impactful for folks is on affordability. In every conversation you’re having, do not lose focus on that. And as you get the message out there, be consistent: Trump does not care about regular people, and he will sell them out every chance he gets if it benefits his billionaire cronies. Force the issue, and make them defend these outrageous policies.

Washington

[link removed] [[link removed]]This week, the Social Security Administration announced that they are cutting phone services. Reporting says that the agency’s own internal documents say that this will effectively cut off benefits to some seniors, by requiring them to file for benefits online or in-person at a field office.

This news comes at the same time the Social Security Administration plans to close dozens of offices across the country – including potentially the field office right here in Poughkeepsie. While officials say it will reopen after renovations, the office is still listed on DOGE’s website as a source of savings.

When it comes to things like your benefits, we have to look at what our elected officials do and not just what they say. They’re saying they won’t cut benefits for seniors, but they are using every option available to them to curtail access and spit in the face of our seniors.

What I’m doing: I joined folks in Poughkeepsie to rally against the planned cuts to Social Security by the Trump Administration and demand that the local field office fully reopen once renovations are completed in July.

What you can do: I have introduced the “Protecting Social Security Act”, which would help protect benefits by requiring field offices in communities across the country. Call your Representative and tell them to sign onto my legislation to protect the benefits you have rightfully earned.

Going on offense

[link removed] [[link removed]]I was proud to join my community in the Hudson Valley for a protest against President Trump, Elon Musk, and their cruel and horrendous actions of the past few months – too many to list. It was great to be there and GET LOUD that we won’t stand by while they harm thousands of people, from veterans losing healthcare and housing to attacks on social security. We will fight back.

And always, I promise to continue banging the drum in Congress and online about the terrible actions Trump and Elon Musk are taking against the American people.

[link removed] [[link removed]]On April 1st, Wisconsin voters will head to the polls to cast their ballots in the state’s Supreme Court race. The winner will be the deciding vote on the Wisconsin Supreme Court – and could be the difference between protecting or dismantling reproductive rights, voting rights, and so much more in the state.

This is also the first statewide election since 2024, and it will be the first time voters can use their voices to push back against Trump and Elon Musk. The stakes are incredibly high, and Elon Musk has spent millions on ads and voter outreach in order to prop up their right-wing candidate.

Susan Crawford and the Wisconsin Democrats need our support right now. Please, consider donating to Susan Crawford directly by using this link: [link removed] [[link removed]]
