Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

During this District Work Period, I was again out in our community meeting with constituents and fighting back against the Trump administration's overreach.

1.Visited with Bucktown and Bowmanville Community Groups

On Wednesday, I spent my evening at some of the active community groups that make up Illinois' fifth district. I visited Bowmanville Community Organization and Bucktown Community Organization to talk about how I'm fighting back against DOGE and what Trump and Musk's cuts mean for Chicagoland. I'm grateful to these groups for inviting me to attend their meetings.

Also on Wednesday, I attended a federal workers' rally hosted by the National Treasury Employees Union where I reaffirmed my support for federal workers and my opposition to Musk and DOGE's slash and burn approach to government efficiency.

2. Returned from Visiting Ukraine

Recently, President Trump has repeatedly undermined Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression. This week, I returned from a trip to Ukraine where I met with Ukrainian leadership and learned about the important role the United States plays in the war. I used this opportunity to tell Ukrainians that not all Americans agree with President Trump's decision to abandon our allies. I am committed to standing with Ukraine until this conflict ends and their independence is once again honored.

3. Condemned the Resumption of Hostilities in Gaza

Last month, I wrote an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune where I called on the Trump administration to not squander the unique opportunity we had to broker peace in the Middle East. Unfortunately, this week, Prime Minister Netanyahu resumed airstrikes in Gaza and the opportunity to capitalize on the ceasefire was lost. Though hostilities have resumed, it is imperative that all parties return to the negotiating table immediately. We must find a path to a lasting peace that ensures the release of the remaining hostages, security for Israelis and Palestinians, and lays the groundwork for a two-state solution.

ICYMI: Last week, I demanded an end to DOGE and Elon Musk's firing. During the debate over the Republican CR, I also took to the House floor to call out Republicans' dereliction of duty and their decision to betray the Constitution by not objecting to Trump's illegal government cuts.
