A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
On Tuesday, I joined my colleagues in the Rhode Island congressional delegation for a National Day of Action to sound the alarm on the extreme cuts to Medicaid that conservatives in Congress are currently pursuing. At Butler Hospital in Providence, we led a discussion with medical professionals and advocacy groups to highlight how the Republican budget proposal endangers the behavioral and mental health care of thousands of Rhode Islanders.
CLICK HERE TO VIEW: Congressmen Amo with the Rhode Island congressional delegation at Butler Hospital to emphasize how the conservative-proposed cuts to Medicaid would harm Rhode Islanders seeking behavioral and mental health care.
Medicaid cuts to behavioral care would be devastating for the roughly 40% of enrollees in Rhode Island who struggle with mental illness. They would widen already-large gaps in access to providers and care while putting additional burdens on those seeking treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. In Rhode Island, Medicaid covers every 1 in 3 children. Cuts would stress the availability of health services for everyone — including hospital systems, providers, community health centers, and school health programs who already face challenges.
Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 306,000 Rhode Islanders — including children, mothers and newborns, adults with disabilities, and nursing home residents. But right now, that lifeline is at risk. The budget resolution Republicans in Congress are pushing would open the door to gutting Medicaid by $880 billion and could allow to pay for tax cuts for billionaires.
I'm fighting against Medicaid cuts that would harm those who struggle to access essential health care. I will continue to amplify stories of how Medicaid benefits our community to protect and expand the promise of this essential program.
Sincerely, |

Do you support protecting Medicaid funding to ensure Rhode Islanders can access behavioral and mental health care? |

President Donald Trump’s executive order to eliminate the Department of Education is shameful, cruel, and morally bankrupt. It accomplishes nothing except hurting America’s schoolchildren.
The President cannot take this action unilaterally, which is why, alongside Democratic colleagues, I will be fighting back tooth and nail to protect the essential mission of the Department of Education.

Americans contribute to Social Security their entire working lives — they deserve access to their own EARNED benefits.
President Trump's and Elon Musk's policies are setting the stage to gut these benefits for seniors. My Democratic colleagues and I are standing up against these attacks.

The numbers do not lie: the Republican budget proposal benefits are a windfall for the richest 5% while jacking up costs for the bottom 40%.
House Budget Committee Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to stop their plans and restore a fair tax code that works for working-class Americans.

Growing up in Rhode Island, I have always appreciated the kind eyes, warm hearts, deep faith, and good luck of Irish-Americans — on St. Patrick's Day, we are all Irish!
I appreciated meeting and speaking with local officials and all constituents during the festivities. I hope all Rhode Islanders had a Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! |

Hope everyone had a great St Joseph’s Day!
As Rhode Islanders lined up across our state for zeppole, I stopped by Julianna’s Italian Bakery in Cumberland to speak with them about my work in Congress to support small businesses and picked up some treats. Rhode Island is blessed by our Italian community’s faith, heritage, and contributions. |

I visited the brand-new Labor and Delivery Center at Women & Infants Hospital to explore how they support growing Rhode Island families with updated facilities and more individualized care.
Throughout the tour, I was reminded of the critical role that Medicaid plays in supporting maternal health care for new and expecting mothers in our state. I will always support Medicaid funding to help families in our state. |

Since 1898, Union Station has been a place to connect Providence with the rest of our region and our country.
This week, I joined state and local partners to carry on that proud legacy at the ribbon-cutting for Track 15 — an exciting new food hall that I am proud to support as part of a pro-small business, pro-hospitality agenda that helps our economy thrive. |

Social Security Fairness Act Update |
 |
Thanks to the Social Security Fairness Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden this January, we are fixing unfair rules that have shortchanged many teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants. Our Congressional delegation pushed the Trump administration to quickly implement this law. |
To date, over $50 million in retroactive Social Security payments has gone out to Rhode Islanders. More than 7,600 Rhode Islanders stand to benefit from the law's change. These folks have worked hard, paid into Social Security, and deserve every dollar they have earned! |

Amo Forcefully Advocates for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
Congressman Amo gathered at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank with local food program and policy advocates to discuss how Republican-proposed budget cuts would affect vulnerable neighbors who rely on their services.
This week, I visited the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center — a community center and food pantry in Newport that works to fight hunger, promote health, foster education, and support families and seniors. I also gathered with food program and policy advocates at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in Providence to discuss how the Republican-proposed budget cuts could target the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Republicans in Congress are pushing policies that would slash $230 billion in funding for SNAP. I am alarmed about what that would mean for parents, seniors, and individuals with disabilities who rely on this vital program to stay healthy. Last week, President Trump cut $1 billion in federal funding from the Local Food Purchase Assistance Program that allows schools, food banks, and child care facilities to purchase healthy food directly from local farmers and fishers.
Cuts to nutrition assistance programs negatively impact our people and local economy. When families cannot afford groceries, it also affects our farmers, neighborhood markets, and small businesses. That’s why I am fighting to protect SNAP, so that no one struggles to put food on the table.

Congressman Amo Discusses Republican Policies Which Are Hurting Workers on ABC |

Last week, I joined ABC News to discuss the extreme spending bill passed by Republicans that will slash rental assistance for low-income and working-class Americans. I talked about my opposition to the Republican continuing resolution because it would cede more power to Elon Musk's policies which are assaulting hardworking Americans. |

Bryant Bulldogs Go Dancin'! |

Like many others across Rhode Island, I'm cheering on Smithfield's own Bryant University Bulldogs as they play in this year's NCAA Tournament. In a big boost to our local economy, Providence is once again hosting games for the first two rounds. In Congress, I’m always working to make sure Rhode Island is well-positioned to show off our great small businesses and local features that make our community special. |
