Dear Friends,
At a moment when our federal government is degrading the celebrations and recognitions that so many fought so hard to achieve, it gave me great pride to proclaim March to be Women’s History Month in Frederick County!
You can watch the video of our Women’s History Month Proclamation here.
Frederick County has a long history of intelligent, strong women who lead extraordinary lives. I am so proud of the strong women that came before us, the strong women making a difference here every day, and the young women we are raising and mentoring to be forces for their own, and our collective, good.
Last night, I joined an incredible group at the Frederick County Commission for Women’s Raving About Women Awards. This event was a fantastic opportunity to recognize women leaders in our community, including:
Joyce King, Chief Counsel for the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office and champion for survivors of abuse and exploitation, who was named Woman of the Year
Carleah Summers, Executive Director of Andrea’s House, transitional living for women in recovery, who was named Up and Coming Woman of the Year, and
Avanee, a local nonprofit focused on helping women of all ages with education and community building events, named Organization of the Year
I am so grateful that these amazing women choose to serve our community and be a force of good and a source of inspiration.
This month is not just a celebration—it’s a reminder of the resilience, strength, and boundless potential of women who have shaped society, fought for change, and made their voices heard.
Let’s continue to support one another, lift up the voices of women, and work toward a future where all are empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Together, we are making history.
