©Stephen R. Meyer, Vero Beach, Florida, June, 2020
Issued 06/03/20

* There were roughly 19 weeks from the end of May to the early voting period of
the 2020 election.
* Miami-Dade County did not post their April numbers until after the April report
was released. Relative Republican voter registrations improved by 134 in Miami-Dade
County in April. Miami-Dade County numbers are up to date in this report.
* In May, Republican registrations in Florida, relative to Democrat registrations,
improved by 18,877 registrations. This leaves the Democrats with a 269,776 relative
registration advantage (See attached chart and tables for the details of this and
other related items).
* A new table (Table 3) lists the counties by the percentage of Republican registrations.

The economy is starting the process of recovering, but the fear of contracting COVID-19
is limiting some who may or may not be under any legal obligation to quarantine
to quarantine anyway. This will hinder economic activity, which could lead to economic
underperformance, which could result in The President's popularity not being what
it should be at the time of the election. For this reason, amongst many reasons,
there is a need for a treatment for COVID-19.
The trials required for the approval of drug/biologics concerning COVID-19 are,
at best, troubling. The measure for many of the trials is survivability. This implies
that officials are expecting deaths in the trials. It is beyond comprehension that
regulating authorities are planning on giving placebos to patients with the expectation
of death when treatments are available. Many drugs/biologics have shown efficacy,
even when administered to patients in grave condition, and this has led to significant
gains in knowledge.
There was a severe COVID-19 patient who had been on an ECMO machine for weeks. The
patient had been previously treated with hydroxychloroquine and later with remdesivir
with no improvement seen in either case. The patient was then treated with a new
drug/biologic and was able to be taken off the ECMO machine after three days. A
doctor familiar with the case said in an interview that in a double-blind, placebo-controlled
study, there exist far more uncontrolled variables than having the same patient
go through treatment by three different drugs and their associated regimens.
This situation seems to be in The President's wheelhouse. There is bureaucracy (the
medical deep state) hindering the advancement of new drugs/biologics resulting in
unnecessary death. It seems the medical deep state is focused on a vaccine. As is
the case with most regulatory bureaucracy, the bureaucracies, and the big players
in the businesses being regulated, form an unholy alliance that disallows new players
from joining the game. It is past time to accept the significant advancements of
those with treatments for COVID-19 instead of forcing the companies to waste time
and resources jumping through unnecessary hoops while the vulnerable experience
horrendous, and in many cases unnecessary, deaths.
As was written here last month, there are two errors that can be made in the drug/biologics
approval process: 1) delaying the approval of a helpful drug/biologic; and 2) approving
a drug/biologic which causes harm. Bureaucracies fear the approving of a drug/biologic
which will cause harm. The bureaucracies, not the patients, are in charge. Those
who are terminal, and their loved ones, fear delayed approvals of helpful drugs/biologics.
Which error is to be chosen should reside with those that have the most to lose,
which in this case are those poor souls facing death.
The good news in this COVID-19 pandemic is that it has moved up the advancement
in treating many of our most serious age-related diseases, which appear in many
cases not to be caused by the pathogens themselves, but tied to the immune system's
response to the pathogens.
There exist two situations with COVID-19 treatments that are in trials: approval
of the drugs/biologics; and getting enough of the drug/biologic to treat those
affected. The timelines appear to be pointing towards the end of July/early August
in the best of cases. I hope I am proven wrong with there being earlier availability.
In full disclosure, I have no medical related credentials and modest investments
in a number of companies pursuing treatments for COVID-19.
Best,
Steve Meyer, Indian River County REC Member
