Dear John,
Republicans and the Trump Administration are pushing to cut $880 billion from Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. These cuts would make it harder and more expensive for hardworking families in the Inland Empire to get the healthcare they need. Their radical plan would gut the Medi-Cal system and almost 400,000 people in our community would lose health care access!
Here’s how I’m fighting to protect Medicaid for our community.
Speaking Out on Medicaid Day of Action
This week, I held a press conference as part of Medicaid Day of Action at SAC Health’s Mobile Clinic in San Bernardino to highlight how these proposed Medicaid cuts would take away health care from thousands of people in our community. I heard directly from local healthcare providers and patients about the real impact these cuts would have on their lives and the care they provide.
I heard from one of our neighbors, Michael, who was diagnosed with chronic cardiovascular conditions that led to frequent emergency room visits. Thanks to his Medi-Cal coverage, Michael can receive accessible, high-quality health care from SAC Health to address his chronic conditions. Fearing the possibility of Medicaid funding being slashed, Michael said, “If this is cut, we have nothing.”
Held a Health Care Roundtable on GOP Medicaid Cuts
I also hosted a roundtable discussion with doctors, health care workers and community leaders to hear from them about the impact these cuts will have on their patients and on the doctors, nurses and other health care professionals who live and work here in the Inland Empire. They all shared how devastating these cuts would be to the entire health care system in the Inland Empire and the pain and suffering these cuts will bring to so many people in our community.
I promised them that I won’t stop fighting to protect Medicaid and ensure our hardworking neighbors in the Inland Empire can get the care they need. I am making the same promise to you.
Thanks,
Pete Aguilar
