A CALL TO END RACIAL INJUSTICE AND POLICE BRUTALITY Hello John,
Members of the liberty movement have watched in anguish at the events unfolding in the United States surrounding the tragic killing of George Floyd. Abuse of power by law enforcement officers is an issue that threatens to diminish peace, love, and liberty for all.
Students For Liberty has renewed its call upon all governments, law enforcement bodies, police officers, and individuals to end the abuse of power, police misconduct, violence, hatred, anger, racism, and injustice that has been prevailing in our society. You can read SFL's renewed call for an end to police brutality and condolences on the death of George Floyd here. HOW TO END POLICE BRUTALITY In this Learn Liberty video, George Mason Law Professor Ilya Somin takes issue with the laws themselves that led to the killings of people like George Floyd and Eric Garner, and asks whether all laws are really worth killing for.
The more racist and unaccountable you believe the police are, Somin argues, the more you should want to limit the number of situations where they can inflict that abusive and racist behavior on civilians.
Can we justify killing people for nonviolent crimes? Can we justify the death of Eric Garner and countless others?
Students For Liberty remains vigilant in ending the unlawful use of force by police officers against civilians. You can find more information on ending police brutality here. Sincerely & For Liberty,
Bernardo Vidigal Learn Liberty Managing Director
