Scott has been working tirelessly to secure the funding needed to address the cross-border sewage crisis that has plagued our region for years.
This week, Scott joined with members of the state and regional Congressional delegation to invite EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to visit the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant (SBITWP) and see firsthand the ongoing environmental and public health harms on our communities. Raw sewage, industrial waste, and other pollutants flowing from the TRV have contaminated San Diego’s coastal waters for years.
Air and water pollution are sickening our communities, harming our local businesses and tourism industry, endangering marine wildlife, and threatening the long-term health of servicemembers stationed here.
Researchers and experts agree that this is an urgent public health and environmental crisis – and one that is quickly worsening. Scott has already helped to secure $650 million to fully repair and expand the SBIWTP and stop cross-border sewage pollution, but this work is far from over.
