House Republicans passed a budget resolution that directs the House Agriculture Committee to cut programs in their jurisdiction by at least $230 billion. Experts say that many of those cuts are expected to come largely or entirely from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

This is irresponsible and wrong. Millions of Americans rely on SNAP benefits in order to put healthy food on the tables for their families.

This move would put over 40 million Americans at risk for increased food insecurity, cut over $20 billion in income from farmers and ranchers, and have significant negative impacts on every part of the food supply chain.

SNAP is our most effective anti-poverty tool and is a vital safety net for families across the country. Instead, Republicans want to scrap the program altogether to help pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest business owners.

Jahana is refusing to stay silent. She knows that cutting SNAP would be devastating, especially for rural communities and small towns, which is why she is working tirelessly to speak out and protect this vital program from being defunded.
