Neighbors,

This week, the Committee on Business and Economic Development held a public hearing on Bill 26-119, the Official Sports Capital of the United States Designation Act of 2025, which seeks to officially recognize Washington, D.C. as the nation’s premier sports destination.

D.C. is already a powerhouse in American sports—home to championship-winning teams, world-class venues, and a passionate fan base. We’ve hosted some of the biggest events in sports, from the MLB All-Star Game to World Cup qualifiers, reinforcing our city's reputation as a global sports hub.

This designation isn’t just symbolic—it’s a strategic investment in our city’s future. By positioning D.C. as the Official Sports Capital of the United States, we can drive economic growth, attract marquee events, boost tourism, and support small businesses. Most importantly, this initiative will help expand opportunities in sports, health, and wellness—especially for our youth and underserved communities.

I appreciate the voices of local sports leaders, team owners, and residents who testified at this hearing, and I look forward to working together to make this vision a reality.

Thank you for your continued support as we build a stronger, more vibrant Washington, D.C.

In service,
Kenyan

Legislative Updates
On Thursday, the Committee on Business and Economic Development held a public hearing on Bill 26-119, the Official Sports Capital of the United States Designation Act of 2025. This legislation seeks to officially recognize Washington, D.C. as the nation’s premier sports destination—an honor that reflects our city’s deep sports legacy and tremendous economic potential.

The hearing featured testimony from key voices in the sports community, including team owners, executives, and advocates. Their insights underscored how this designation can attract major sporting events, drive economic growth, create jobs, and expand opportunities for local youth and businesses.

D.C. has already proven itself as a powerhouse in the world of sports, hosting major events like the MLB All-Star Game, NBA All-Star Game, NHL Winter Classic, and World Cup qualifiers. By securing this designation, we can further solidify our city’s status as a global sports hub while ensuring that all communities benefit from the opportunities it brings.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this important discussion. We look forward to continuing this work and making this vision a reality for Washington, D.C.!
