Rep. David Gottfried legislative update banner

Dear Neighbors,

I’m wrapping up my first week in the Minnesota House, and I’m happy to say I’ve hit the ground running! With the legislative session already in full swing, I spent this week helping to pass several bipartisan bills, and already joined my DFL colleagues in blocking an incredibly irresponsible tax bill - one that would’ve put the whims of corporations like Amazon and Meta above the needs of our community.

That was an easy “no” vote from me.

I want to give a shout out to our State Senator, John Marty, who graciously invited me to join his already-scheduled Town Hall tomorrow. So if you didn’t already have that one on your radar, I wanted to pay it forward and invite you too!

Town Hall

We’ll be at Roseville City Hall, in the City Council Chambers, from 10:30am - 12pm. I’m looking forward to giving folks an update on my first week as your State Representative, and answering any questions you may have.

I hope to see you there!

How Will Federal Education Cuts Impact You?

*Sadly, we no longer have a serious partner in the White House when it comes to building a world-class education system for our students. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) launched a public feedback portal at education.mn.gov [ [link removed] ] for parents, students, teachers, and community members to submit detailed accounts of the ways recent Executive Orders and abrupt federal education cuts are impacting schools and children across our state.

More than 860,000 students in Minnesota depend on stable partnerships that have existed between their school communities, MDE and the U.S. Department of Education across administrations. For decades, the federal investments facilitated through those partnerships have played a key role in ensuring students in Minnesota receive the support they need to learn and thrive, including:

* $256 million for students with disabilities
* $192 million for students from low-income backgrounds
* $27 million for academic enrichment
* $6 million for students in rural schools
* $38 million to support children living on military bases or Native American reservations
* $100 million for Career and Technical Education workforce development programs

If any of these cuts impact you and your family, please let us know!

Safe and Secure Medication Disposal

*Starting March 31, new federal regulations take effect ensuring that free, prepaid mail-back envelopes will be available to Minnesotans when they pick up their opioid analgesic prescription at the pharmacy. This action is the result of a new US FDA modification to the rules governing opioid analgesic producers. More information is available here [ [link removed] ].

MyOldMeds

This action by the FDA offers another means of drug disposal for Minnesota residents in addition to the 10 disposal options in our community, and 380 options in communities around Minnesota [ [link removed] ]. You can learn more at MyOldMeds.com [ [link removed] ], an educational initiative that raises awareness of the proper use, storage, and disposal of household medicines.
