Legislative Update – March 21, 2025

Dear neighbors,

I hope you can join me, Representative Mary Frances Clardy, and Senator Matt Klein for a District 53 Town Hall *this Saturday, March 22nd from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Kaposia Library* (131 7th Ave. N South St. Paul, MN 55075). Come to learn about the work going on at the State Capitol and how we're fighting for a stronger Minnesota despite the chaos coming out of D.C.

You can also watch a Town Square television segment I did alongside Senator Klein and Representatives Frances Clardy and Perez Vega about how the 2025 session is shaping up here [ [link removed] ].

Mentoring the Next Generation

This week I was proud to have college student Jesse Terry come to shadow me at the Legislature as part of his “Agriculture Policy and Issues in Minnesota” course at the University of Minnesota’s College of Agricultural Education, Communication, and Marketing.

Jesse has interned at the Minnesota Senate, worked on a farm, and hopes to work in Agriculture policy after graduating. I was glad to take the opportunity to show Jesse how the Minnesota House works and give him an inside look at working on the Agriculture Committee during a legislative tie and uncertainty at the federal level.

Other Updates

This week, Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman appointed me to serve on the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute Board, or AURI. AURI works to expand the agricultural economy here in Minnesota, and I’ll be there to advocate for smart investments in practices that feed Minnesotans and protect our environment.

Today, the Office of the Legislative Auditor released its report [ [link removed] ] on the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Grants Management. The report identified important areas for improvement which I will be working on as a member of the Legislative Audit Commission.
