John,

I’m the father of two amazing kids who proudly graduated from New York City public schools.

So Meg and I are no strangers to the challenges that New York City parents in all five boroughs face. Caring for children is one of the single most rewarding parts of life – but along with housing, it’s one of the skyrocketing expenses that are pushing families out of the city.

We need to change the system so that every family can afford to raise children of all ages here, with high-quality child care and a world-class public school education. And as you may have already guessed, I have a solution.

When I’m Mayor of New York, I will ensure access to affordable child care for all by:

* Restoring Mayor Adams’ cuts to child care so that NYC can achieve universal Pre-K and 3-K
* Ensuring that every 3- and 4-year-old has access to a preschool seat in a program that is amongst their parents’ top choices
* Introducing a new, free, full-day 2-K program for 2-year-olds
* Ensure that no child with disabilities is put on a waitlist for the services they are entitled to
* Ensure that every caregiver and educator receives fair pay, and providers are paid ON TIME

I will also support and dramatically expand afterschool and summer programming for all by:

* Delivering free, high-quality afterschool programming for every K through 8th grader – from dance and long division, to social studies and soccer.
* Expanding Summer Rising educational and enrichment summer programming to 140,000 slots for elementary and middle school students
* Implementing a Summer Youth Employment Program that provides 160,000 jobs summer for every interested 14-24 year old, including undocumented youth.

Our kids are the future generation of our City’s leaders. The greatest city on earth should be able to provide high quality education, care, and opportunities to kids of all ages – from 2-year-olds just starting out in the world, to young adults looking for a summer gig.

John, I’ll be a Mayor who fights like hell to ensure every single New York City kid can thrive. Thanks for reading this longer message.
