Dear Friend, |
Trump’s EPA administrator Lee Zeldin just announced the “Biggest Deregulatory Action in U.S. History.” |
The Trump administration seems determined to take us back to a time when our air was so polluted it was unsafe to breathe, and our waters were so toxic they caught on fire. |
Should the EPA undo settled law and irrefutable facts, we expect to see this administration in court. Make a donation today to fund our lawsuits and protect our future on planet Earth. |
|
Earthjustice has already met this administration’s environmental attacks with a series of lawsuits. |
With your support, we will continue to do so. |
The first Trump administration tried to destroy many of the environmental safeguards Zeldin is once again seeking to dismantle. Earthjustice successfully defended many of them, filing 200 lawsuits against the first Trump administration and winning 85% of the decisions. |
Here’s what’s inside the 31-point order Zeldin issued last week: |
Climate Change: Zeldin is seeking to strike down the 2009 Endangerment Finding. Put most simply, this finding states that a) climate change is real, b) greenhouse gas emissions cause climate change, and c) climate change has negative consequences. It is the legal basis for regulation of greenhouse gases. |
Zeldin is also seeking to reduce limits on carbon emissions for both fossil fuel power plants and cars and trucks. Taken together, power plants and transportation account for over half of our country’s greenhouse gas emissions. |
Clean Air: The Trump administration will reconsider rules on air pollutants that are credited with saving thousands of lives per year. That includes mercury pollution, soot, and smog. |
Clean Water: The EPA is excluding certain wetlands from protection, allowing more pollution to seep into our waterways. |
The administration is also attempting to cut regulations on toxic coal ash, a hazardous byproduct of coal plants that contains arsenic, lead, mercury, and radium. |
By cutting these rules, EPA leaders will jeopardize the health of all Americans — but they will harm frontline communities and those forced to live near industrial pollution most of all. If and when the EPA goes through the formal process to change these life-saving regulations, we will challenge them in court. |
Earthjustice fought back in the first Trump administration, and we are ready for round 2. Donate today to support our work. |
|
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and commitment to this work. |
|
Sincerely,
The Team at Earthjustice |
