Hi John,
From securing disaster relief funding to keeping North Carolina families and businesses in mind when it comes to policy decisions, I’m working hard to make sure our state government is delivering real solutions.
Whether it’s fighting for storm recovery resources, ensuring fairness in vehicle inspection fees, or keeping you updated on the latest from Raleigh, I’m committed to serving the people of Richmond and Moore counties.
In this update, you’ll find highlights of the work we’re doing to support our communities. As always, my office is here to assist you — please don’t hesitate to reach out!
At your service,
Ben

** MORE DISASTER RECOVERY FUNDING
------------------------------------------------------------
House Bill 47 ([link removed]) is now law, delivering $528 million to help Western NC recover from Hurricane Helene — plus $217 million for ongoing recovery from Hurricanes Matthew & Florence.
This funding will rebuild homes, support farmers, repair roads, and help small businesses get back on their feet. This is a strong step forward, but there’s more to do. I’ll keep fighting for the resources our communities need!
** HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!
------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you all enjoyed a happy Saint Patrick’s Day! ☘️ May this season be filled with good luck, great company, and all of the blessings promised to us.
** UPDATE ON VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION FEES
------------------------------------------------------------
I want to take a moment to update everyone on House Bill 153 ([link removed]) , which originally proposed an increase in vehicle safety inspection fees. After careful consideration, we have decided to move this issue to a study at the DMV. We’ve asked them to explore all options and report back to the General Assembly with their findings.
At this time, given the economic challenges many North Carolinians are still facing, we believe this is the best path forward. We understand the importance of ensuring that garages and mechanics can sustain their businesses and not simply subsidize the state or operate at a loss, but we also know that many families are working hard just to make ends meet.
Once the DMV completes its study, we will share the results with the public and determine the next steps based on the data. As always, our goal is to make informed decisions that reflect the best interests of the people of North Carolina.
I truly appreciate the thoughtful discussions around this issue and encourage civility and respect as we navigate future challenges together. If there’s anything I or my office can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
