This Weekend: Help Us Plant Tree Seedlings in Arlington!
The habitat restoration of a corridor from Upton Hill Regional Park through Powhatan Springs Skate Park towards Bluemont Park in Arlington has been going on for years, thanks in large part to efforts by Arlington Regional Master Naturalist (ARMN) volunteers. In November 2020, NVBA became part of a nature corridor support team that has worked together to improve both habitat restoration and activities welcoming to underserved groups. Over the last decade and thanks to the hands of hundreds of volunteers, Upton Hill Regional Park has been mostly cleared of invasives, a miraculous feat! This special place is now ready to support a healthy native forest. Our chapter has contributed some funds to this project and will be working this weekend alongside local champions and volunteers from ARMN, Tree Stewards of Arlington and Alexandria, in partnership with NOVA Parks.
Our goal? To plant 200 native tree seedlings in Upton Hill Regional Park in one weekend!
We can do it with your help! Opportunities to plant will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1:00-4:00PM. If you have experience, please consider signing up as a tree planting leader. For everyone else, just sign up as a volunteer. Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/uptonhill#/
