Two months ago, Maine Conservation Voters launched our Friday Lunch & Learn series online, and we’ve been delighted by how many of you have joined us each week!
Together, we’ve learned about Maine’s birds and trees, sustainable agriculture and gardening techniques, coastal carbon capture, carbon pricing, the Maine Climate Council, and Portland and South Portland’s efforts to combat climate change. If you haven’t joined an event yet, video recordings of our previous Lunch & Learns programs are available on our website.
Traditionally, our programming slows down during the summer as the weather gets nicer and people spend more time outside. Given the times we're now living in, we're planning to continue our weekly series for as long as you want to spend your Friday lunch hour with us.
We’re always looking for new speakers and issues to feature, so please contact my colleague Will at [email protected] with your ideas and suggestions.

Friday, June 5th, 12-1 PM: Introduction to Climate Science

Dr. Karl Kreutz, Professor at the School of Earth and Climate Sciences and the Climate Change Institute at UMaine will be giving us an introductory course in climate science. He will cover how global warming works, the current period of climate change we are experiencing, and its impacts — both globally and in Maine. Register here!

Corey Hinton and John Banks will join us to present on the Fish & Game and Environmental components of LD 2094, An Act To Implement the Recommendations of the Task Force on Changes to the Maine Indian Claims Settlement Implementing Act. Michael-Corey (Corey) F. Hinton is a citizen of the Passamaquoddy Tribe enrolled at Pleasant Point and an attorney with Drummond Woodsum & MacMahon whose practice focuses on the representation of Tribal Nations and their enterprises on a wide range of issues, including tribal governance, natural resources and the environment, economic development, and employment law. John Banks is the Director of the Department of Natural Resources for the Penobscot Indian Nation. Register here!
