Yesterday, Donald Trump signed an executive order to dismantle the entire Department of Education. 

Tens of millions of students rely on the services and support provided by this essential agency—including children with disabilities, kids in rural communities, and students from low-income families. Eliminating the Department of Education would have devastating consequences for these children and their families, stripping away the resources, protections, and opportunities they depend on to succeed. 

This move isn’t just reckless and extreme—it’s illegal. The Constitution makes it clear that Congress, not Trump, has the final say when it comes to creating or eliminating federal agencies. Trump’s executive order is a direct attack on the rule of law and a dangerous overreach of executive authority.

Illegally shutting down the Department of Education is the latest step in Trump and Elon Musk’s broader plan to gut our federal government, weaken public institutions, and advance an extreme agenda that benefits their billionaire donors and large corporations. 

Children across the country are counting on us to stand up for their right to a high-quality education. Let’s rise to the moment and show them that we won’t back down.
