Hello from the State Capitol,
After hearing local county concerns about outdated human services software, I am exploring ways to repurpose state funds to assist local agencies.
I’ve been told the software resembles something that would have been used in the 1980’s. It repeatedly freezes and breaks down, and something needs to be done about it.
Counties are seeing hours of wasted staff time as they are trying to grapple with software that is no longer reliable. In addition, the counties are expected to implement new programs within this outdated system, which is expected to cost more than $1 million.
Personally, I would like to repurpose funds that were given to the Department of Human Services last session in order to help county agencies fix their software problems, and also delay the release of new state programs to them until their software is fixed and working well.
Once again, state government is prioritizing the wrong things. We need to have reliable, workable systems before we bog local agencies down with new programming.
Have a good weekend,
Paul
