March 21st, 2025
Happy Friday!
1. LNG approval marks new era for U.S. energy and sustainability
U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright approved an export authorization for the Venture Global CP2 Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, marking the fifth LNG-related approval under the new Trump administration.
The project will export up to 3.96 billion cubic feet per day of LNG, enhancing U.S. energy exports and global energy security.
The approval is part of a broader effort to:
- Accelerate timelines for American energy projects;
- Meet growing global clean energy demand; and
- Reduce energy costs for consumers.
What’s clear: LNG is crucial in providing cleaner, more affordable and more reliable energy. As the world's largest exporter of LNG, the U.S. not only positions itself for success in meeting rising domestic energy demand but also supports global energy security and cleaner energy solutions for its allies.

2. On the Hill: Geothermal’s edge
Panelists (L-R): Gavin Dillingham, SLB New Energy; Josh Posamentier, Congruent Ventures; Jeanine Vany, Eavor; and Jeremy Harrell, ClearPath
ClearPath hosted a Congressional staff briefing that covered opportunities for next-generation geothermal energy projects in the U.S.
The briefing emphasized the opportunity for Congress to support geothermal by:
- Increasing funding for demonstration projects to de-risk early exploration,
- Improving the permitting process, and
- Maintaining access to tax incentives, like the tech-neutral energy credits.
What’s clear: “The geothermal industry has tremendous potential to meet rising energy demand,” said ClearPath CEO Jeremy Harrell. “Congress can build on recent public-private partnerships this year to help innovative companies like Fervo Energy and Eavor go further, faster.”
3. President Trump's Executive Order to boost domestic critical minerals production
Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order <[link removed]> to strengthen the development of U.S. mineral supply chains in the face of global competition. The order:
- Invokes emergency powers in the Defense Production Act to boost domestic mineral production;
- Requires the executive and agencies involved in permitting mineral production to create a list of all mineral projects and ensures the Permitting Council provides transparency of all minerals production projects; and
- Directs preparation of recommendations to clarify the treatment of mine waste under the Mining Act of 1872.
What’s clear: As demand for energy increases, the U.S. will either responsibly develop these resources at home or rely on adversaries like China. This Executive Order and the role it carved out for the National Energy Dominance Council bills would boost domestic mining and provide much-needed certainty to industry.
