Emily’s List’s mission is to elect pro-choice Democratic women to office. It is the nation’s largest resource for women in politics and one of the largest financial resources for women of color seeking federal office. The Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award honors a woman who demonstrates the sort of commitment to community, dedication to women and families, and determination and civility that have been the highlights of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ career, in and out of office.

I couldn’t be more thrilled to be nominated for this award, because I know it’s not only a recognition of my work, but also of the strong support and mentorship I have been grateful to receive from countless women in my life. The support of my community and my determination to leave the world better than I found it is what keeps me going, even while we are facing what feels like insurmountable challenges as a nation. 

If we can all find a way to step up for our communities, we can create a world where every voice is valued and every person has a chance to succeed.
