Enhancing Economic Opportunity for All
Free enterprise, work, family, and education have always been the bedrock of America’s unmatched economic opportunity and success. But too often, government barriers stand in the way of prosperity for all Americans. In 2024, our scholars addressed some of the most serious obstacles facing Americans today.
Learn more about <[link removed]> the concrete impact AEI scholars had across the country on issues ranging from chronic absenteeism and work requirements to technological innovation and housing affordability.
Strengthening National Defense and American Global Leadership
The American-led international order faced renewed challenge from authoritarian regimes. China, Russia, Iran, and other adversaries tested the United States over the course of the year, but AEI scholars helped our country defend its allies and resist aggression around the world.
Learn more about <[link removed]> the role our Foreign and Defense Policy scholars played in supporting Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel and helping policymakers rebuild American soft and hard power.
Promoting Fiscal Responsibility
Despite robust economic growth and slowing inflation, the United States’ long-term
fiscal picture remained clouded by an aging workforce and a growing national debt. AEI scholars produced bold thinking to tackle these challenges directly, pointing the way to a dynamic free-market economy and a federal government that spends within its means.

Defending Liberal Education on Campus
The intolerance and disorder that struck campuses underscored the perilous state of liberal education, as too many institutions abandoned fundamental commitments to free inquiry and American ideals. Our scholars responded by working with members of Congress and higher education leaders to defend these values and advance a new vision for higher education.

Renewing Civic Life
For the past five years, AEI has been developing a vision for the renewal of the core institutions of constitutional government, the news media, and civil society. In 2024, these long-term efforts had a significant near-term impact.
