Since 1992, the ATF could permanently deny 2A rights…
<[link removed]>
John,
In 1992, Chuck Schumer passed an amendment directing the ATF to permanently
deny Second Amendment rights to people who committednon-violent crimes.
The “Schumer Amendment” added to the dangerous precedent of empowering the
government to act as the ultimate arbiter of our God-given rights.
For more than thirty years, GOA has received countless letters from would-be
gun owners asking us to fight for the restoration of their
constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms.
For example, under the “Schumer Amendment,” anyone who was involuntarily
committed to a mental institution for even a short period of time faces an
unconstitutional LIFETIME GUN BAN.
But now, we finally have good news to share… The Department of Justice is
proposing a rule to allow for federal RESTORATION of gun rights for the first
time in 32 years!
With the DOJ requesting comments from the American people regarding this
proposed rule, we need GOA members like you to flood their inbox with comments
showing widespread public support for gun rights restoration.
This rule is a massive step in the right direction towards stopping unelected
ATF bureaucrats from having the power to strip you of a right that is protected
by the U.S. Constitution.
But make no mistake: gun control groups will ask their members to do the same
– and flood the DOJ’s inbox with anti-gun vitriol. That’s why we need to be
certain that for every 1 anti-gun letter the DOJ receives, they receive 3
letters from GOA members.
Please provide comments to the DOJ to show widespread public support for gun
rights restoration.

I strongly support the Department of Justice’s proposed rule to allow for
federal restoration of gun rights pursuant to 18 U.S.C. 925(c).
If the Trump Administration is serious about wanting to rein in unelected
bureaucrats who have abused their power and waged war on individuals' rights
and freedom, then this rule must go into effect.
Unelected ATF bureaucrats should not have the power to permanently deny
certain Americans from ever exercising a constitutionally-protected right to
keep and bear arms.
Since the “Schumer Amendment” went into effect in 1992, thousands of would-be
gun owners have contacted Gun Owners of America, asking for their
constitutionally-protected rights to be restored.
It is unjust to strip those Americans of a constitutional right – for life –
especially a right that provides personal safety and security, and a right that
is explicitly prohibited from being “infringed” upon.
I urge the Department of Justice to move forward and fully implement this
proposed rule.
