ADL REPORT: Widespread Antisemitic and Anti-Israel Bias on Wikipedia
Through an extensive investigation, ADL researchers found widespread antisemitic and anti-Israel bias on Wikipedia, including clear evidence of a coordinated campaign to manipulate Wikipedia’s content related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in likely violation of Wikipedia’s policies. Of particular concern, the report also found that pro-Hamas perspectives inform Arabic-language Wikipedia content on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Why is this so problematic? As ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said on MSNBC this week, “4.4 billion people use it every month. It’s bigger than Facebook. It’s bigger than Instagram. It’s bigger than TikTok. It’s literally the default resource for students, for journalists, for ordinary people.” It’s also relied on by core resources like Google Search and large language models like ChatGPT.
Read our reporting on the evidence that a group of at least 30 editors acted in concert to circumvent Wikipedia’s policies to introduce antisemitic narratives, anti-Israel bias and misleading information. The report also includes recommendations for Wikipedia, policymakers and other websites that draw on Wikipedia.

Urge Wikipedia to prevent anti-Israel and antisemitic bias. When Wikipedia gets things wrong, it can shape how an entire generation understands world conflicts, and potentially spreads misinformation and antisemitic narratives to millions of people. You can help set the record straight by joining ADL in urging Wikipedia to create expert review panels for contentious topics and insisting on properly verifying claims with reliable sources.

New Federal Antisemitism Investigations Against 5 Universities and Colleges: The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights is opening investigations into complaints filed by ADL and the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law against Yale University, University of Massachusetts Amherst and Scripps College. As ADL VP of National Litigation James Pasch emphasized, “The experiences of the Jewish students at these institutions have been emblematic of what we have seen across the country, and that must change, and it must change now.” The Department is also opening complaints against American University and the Fulton County School District for
allegations of antisemitism against students.

The Houthis' Antisemitism and Anti-Israel Hate: With the Yemen-based Houthi group in the news again for more missile attacks on Israel and confrontations with the U.S., you may find this recent ADL backgrounder helpful in understanding their beliefs and their danger as a terror proxy of Iran. As our report shows, the Houthi attacks on Israel are motivated by a deep and intense hatred of Jews that predates the Gaza conflict by decades.

Who Is Steve Bannon?: ADL researchers have updated the “Five Things to Know” article about far-right political provocateur, podcaster, and conspiracy theorist Steve Bannon. Among the new information in the document is Bannon’s support for Alternative for Germany (AfD). AfD is an extremist, anti-immigrant political party with a history of espousing antisemitic, anti-Muslim and anti-democracy rhetoric.

Who is Andrew Tate?: Andrew Tate is a British-American former kickboxer and reality television star with millions of social media followers — over 10 million on X (formerly Twitter) alone. He uses his platform to cannily deliver his disturbing views on rape, relationships and power. ADL researchers have updated our analysis of Tate to include the antisemitic, racist, pro-terror content he has pushed since the 10/7 Hamas attack on Israel.

Protecting Students in Santa Ana: California's Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by ADL, the Brandeis Center and AJC against the school district alleging Ethnic Studies courses were developed in secret and riddled with antisemitism. The settlement allows the opportunity for public input, enforces policies that apply to teaching materials on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and ensures the district will stop working with an outside consultant who expressed antisemitic views. Research during the lawsuit had uncovered antisemitic statements by Board and Committee members.

@ADL
Universities who cut ties with Israeli institutions will not build peace and understanding, they will just normalize anti-Israel hatred, antisemitism and divisions on campus. While most schools have resisted calls to divest, it’s outrageous @UvA_Amsterdam caved.

ADL and AJC met with Ireland's Prime Minister Micheál Martin to address the challenges facing the small Irish Jewish community, including an atmosphere of antisemitism and anti-Israel bias. We urged concrete steps including the implementation of the Global Guidelines for Countering Antisemitism and the appointment of a National Coordinator for government policies against antisemitism. We expect the Irish government to act swiftly and will be closely monitoring the situation.

@JGreenblattADL
@washingtonpost’s Israel coverage is under fire again, and with good reason. How could anyone who, as @J_Insider reports, openly “called Israel an illegal state, openly identified as an anti-Zionist and signaled support for Hamas and Hezbollah,” be trusted to impartially report on a conflict involving the Jewish state? ALL media outlets should have higher journalistic integrity than this.
