Hi all,

We all know that Maricopa County has a housing crisis. We feel it every day: ever-higher rents; ever-tighter monthly budgets; family members and friends squeezed into too-small apartments, or commuting from the far fringes of the city; neighbors and community members who find themselves on the street with nowhere to turn.

In 2024, there were 83,000 evictions in Maricopa County -- an all-time record.

There's so much more our elected officials could be doing to keep people in their homes. That's why our chapter just launched a brand-new campaign called Protect Tempe Tenants. We're calling on the Tempe City Council to:

  • Pass a Right to Counsel policy so that any Tempe tenant facing eviction is guaranteed representation by an attorney
  • Make major increases in funding for rental assistance
  • Pass a city ordinance to block evictions from proceeding during Arizona's brutal and dangerous summer heat

And stay tuned for more actions soon!

In solidarity,

Phoenix DSA

PS: Even as we fight to pass new policies through City Hall, we're also working to build power and meet people's needs through mutual aid, political education, and more. We'd love to have you as part of it -- check out our upcoming events!
