Team — I’m struggling for words right now.

Trump just ordered the dismantling and eventual shut-down of the Department of Education.

This is a staggering blow to our nation and the future we are leaving behind for generations to come.

The Department of Education was created to strengthen public education in this country and ensure that every student from every background has a shot at a quality education that can put them on the path to prosperity and success.

This devastating decision by the Trump administration will raise class sizes, cut job training programs, make higher education more expensive, take away special education services for students with disabilities, and gut student civil rights protections.

And of course, this move is about gutting public education as much as it’s about paying for more tax breaks for billionaires like Elon Musk, too.

When the president oversteps his mandate like Trump did today, the job falls to Congress to correct course.

Congress has the power to protect the Department of Education right now by overriding Trump’s executive order with legislation.

That’s why I’m asking you today: Sign our petition calling on Congress to take action to protect the Department of Education. Let’s show members of Congress that the American people will not stand for this outrageous and disastrous move by Trump.
