Trump just signed an executive order that will dismantle the Department of Education.

I never thought I’d have to send an email like this.

For 45 years the Department of Education has strengthened our public schools, protected the civil rights of students, made higher education more affordable and accessible, and much much more.

It’s a crucial institution — one codified by Congress — that Trump is slashing for his and his fellow oligarch’s political and economic gain.

Trump’s move today is a disgusting abuse of power, and only the latest in his and Elon Musk’s quest to take apart our federal government so they can avoid accountability and lower their tax bills.

Congress must act to protect the Department of Education. If we don’t, it will prove that Republicans in Congress are in lock-step with Trump’s radical, far-right vision for the future, where a basic public education is a thing of the past.

Now is the time to put maximum pressure on members of Congress to show some backbone and stand against this illegal, impractical, and immoral decision. And if they are unwilling to stand up for public education, we have to prove to them that they will get voted out.

We have a responsibility to organize and show out in any way we can.
