Full Fact has launched its government policy tracker to assess how the government are getting on implementing their manifesto

It’s been almost four months since we launched our Government Tracker. Since then we’ve monitored over 50 pledges from Labour’s 2024 manifesto and key announcements the government has made since coming to office. 

Despite progress on a range of commitments, the government needs to be clearer and provide more information about how it plans to achieve its goals.

More than eight months since Labour took office, Full Fact has found it difficult or impossible to rate 12 pledges, due either to unclear wording or insufficient information about the details of the pledge. 

If the government wants to rebuild shattered public trust, they must work harder to ensure the public can understand what it’s delivering.

HOW IT WORKS
Full Fact has initially looked at 43 pledges Labour made in its manifesto during the 2024 general election. We've then compared this to the government's record in power to see how they're getting on.

We've assigned each of these pledges one of seven ratings:
 

  • Achieved

  • Appears on track

  • In progress

  • Appears off track

  • Not kept

  • Unclear or disputed

  • Wait and see...

Has the government ended the use of offshore trusts to avoid inheritance tax?

We will end the use of offshore trusts to avoid inheritance tax so that everyone who makes their home here in the UK pays their taxes here.

Our verdict:

A new residence-based inheritance tax system is set to replace the current domicile-based system on 6 April 2025.
