Hello John,

How might promoting the highest standards of beauty and artistic achievement inspire us to renew our national, civic, and cultural identity as Americans?

You can explore that question at ISI's 18th Annual Gala for Western Civilization on May 2, 2025 at our Linda L. Bean Center as we celebrate this year's theme: Beauty Will Save America.

We will be awarding Dana Gioia and Jamie Wyeth with our Charles H. Hoeflich Lifetime Achievement Award and the Linda L. Bean Prize for Advancing American Art & Culture, respectively.

Dana Gioia is an internationally acclaimed poet and former National Endowment for the Arts chair. In addition to the American Book Award and Poets’ Prize, Gioia has won many awards including the Laetare Medal from Notre Dame, Presidential Citizen’s Medal, Aiken Taylor Award in Modern Poetry, and Walt Whitman Champion of Literacy prize. He has been awarded ten honorary doctorates.

A celebrated contemporary realist painter, Jamie Wyeth is a third-generation artist and member of a famed American artistic dynasty. Though many of his works reflect the eternal beauty of the Maine landscape or the enduring dignity of domestic animals and wildlife, others are intensely of their time, depicting important individuals and cultural events in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Both Dana and Jamie have devoted their careers to promoting the highest standards of beauty and artistic achievement in our culture—making them the perfect recipients of our awards.
