John Lewis was a true advocate for justice and equality. He stood against segregation at great cost to his safety and security.
As a Congressman, Lewis continued to advocate for equal opportunities for African Americans and other minority communities – especially when it came to voting rights.
He knew firsthand the disparities Americans of color had faced – and continued to face – when it came to exercising the fundamental right to vote.
Now, Democrats in Congress are trying to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to honor Congressman Lewis’s legacy and address ongoing disparities in voting access.
