We hope everyone is staying safe during this ongoing health emergency. First, I wanted to say thank you for your ongoing support of our campaign. I can’t say how grateful I am to have you on our team, John. This past week in California and around the country, we’ve seen a swell of protests fueled by anger over the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery -- and so many others who have perished directly from police violence against Black Americans. This is a trying moment in our nation's history. I strongly support the American people’s First Amendment right to peacefully protest, and I’ve been inspired seeing so many stand up and speak out for a more just and equal world. That’s why President Trump’s actions disturb me so much. When our nation needs a leader, he hides from the public and incites violence on Twitter. Desperate for a photo op, he tear gases peaceful protesters - an atrocious violation of our Constitutional rights. As a Navy Veteran, I’m outraged that he’s threatening to deploy our military against the American people. This is not what our country needs from its leader. Our country is hurting, and what we’re hearing outside is generations of pain, suffering, and injustice. Nobody should have to fear losing their life because of the color of their skin. We need to listen. We need change. We can and we must be better. I am proud to echo the people’s calls for justice -- and I commit to working to ensure that it happens in all aspects of our government. In solidarity, |
