And I’m proud of the bipartisan work I’ve done to try to make our government more transparent and accountable, including efforts to prevent insider trading from Members of Congress.

Kansans deserve a government that is accountable, transparent, and effective. But in the last two months, we’ve seen a dramatic turn in the opposite direction.

Over the last few weeks, Elon Musk has breached the federal government’s payment system, and even gained access to highly sensitive personal information — including your Social Security number and tax records.

Now, he’s unilaterally firing thousands of federal employees and attempting to gut funding for government agencies he dislikes, which is affecting everything from Social Security benefits to storm preparedness to the security of our nuclear weapons stockpile.

This rule-by-billionaire is not what the American people signed up for. Transparency is about the people having information about the government — it’s not supposed to be the government getting more and more access to our private information. And Musk’s terminations of thousands of high-performing public servants will make government services less effective and accountable, not more.

I’m going to keep fighting hard against Elon Musk’s attacks on the transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of our government — because for the good of the American people, this needs to end.
