Washington, DC | www.mpac.org | – March 20, 2025 — Earlier this week, Israel unilaterally and without provocation ended the ceasefire, resuming its indiscriminate bombing campaign and killing over 400 people in Gaza within hours. This attack, carried out in coordination with and approval of the White House, followed a two-week blockade that cut off essential food, water, and fuel supplies just as Gazan’s marked the start of Ramadan.
Israel’s acts of terror, thinly veiled as measures in pursuit of security and hostage recovery, reflect a calculated strategy — a deliberate attempt to deflect attention from Prime Minister Netanyahu’s domestic crises while exacting maximum pain on the people of Gaza.
As Israel continues its genocide, its allies in the White House and Congress work to undermine Americans' civil rights and liberties, specifically targeting those who dare to challenge Israel's policies and advocate for Palestinian rights. The efforts to silence dissent and criminalize advocacy across the country not only shield Israel from accountability but also erode the foundational freedoms upon which this nation was built.
Our elected officials must stand up for our democratic institutions and the constitutionally protected right to free speech. When addressing the issue, they must not equivocate: Israel is committing a genocide paid for by our tax dollars while our government is targeting anyone who opposes its unconditional support.
The Muslim Public Affairs Council calls on our lawmakers to support the series of Joint Resolutions of Disapproval ([link removed](I%2DVt.,offensive%20U.S.%20weaponry%20to%20Israel.) introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), which would block the sale of weapons to Israel and the companion legislation introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) and Pramila Jayapal (WA-7). We ask you to contact your Senators and Representative ([link removed]) and call on them to support the resolutions and to ask members to publicly voice their support.

In the face of these injustices, it is more crucial than ever to remain vigilant and unwavering. The fight for justice is not confined to the borders of Gaza — it extends to defending our right to speak out against oppression and resisting the suppression of truth. Solidarity demands that we not only condemn the genocide and American support for it, but also challenge the erosion of our rights at home.
