How have recent executive orders impacted your work?
Hi Friend,
The executive branch has taken unprecedented actions in recent weeks to dismantle critical support for low-income and marginalized communities. These actions are expected to have a direct impact and challenge on our work towards advancing a Just Economy. Some of these actions include:
Attempting to disrupt the distribution of federal funds, putting organizations relying on those funds at risk of limiting critical services and stripping millions of Americans’ access to community-based resources like financial assistance, job-training programs, and affordable housing initiatives.
Dismantling DEI programsthat support initiatives aimed at closing the racial wealth gap, protecting individuals’ fair housing rights, and ensuring equitable access to capital for small business owners.
Challenging the independence of regulatory agencieslike the CFPB and FDIC who are tasked with protecting consumers from unfair, deceptive, and illegal practices by making financial markets fair, transparent, and competitive.
We understand that these actions have been met with fear and a growing number of questions for all of us. We are monitoring government actions, pending legal challenges to these orders, and any potential impacts on NCRC, our mission, and our member organizations.
We welcome feedback from community organizations currently experiencing impacts to your work during this time. The link below will give you access to a voluntary survey where you can share your stories. NCRC will use the responses to inform our advocacy efforts by highlighting where and how we coordinate with our national partners.
NCRC will continue to provide resources that support navigating this challenging chapter in American history. Our critical work to support low- and-moderate- income communities and the organizations that serve them across America will not stop.
Rest assured, in its 35 years, NCRC has remained fully committed to our mission. Now, more than ever, we all must remain vigilant, united, and committed to our shared vision of creating a nation that not only promises but delivers opportunities for all Americans to build wealth and live well.
