Friends, this moment in our history is a call for listening, empathy and
understanding. An understanding that justice has been denied for far too long.

The senseless deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and
countless others are a stain on our country. We must do everything we can to
make sure that this doesn’t happen again.

As people of all races and creeds unite in the name of justice, I reflect on
the words of civil rights leader, and my dear colleague, Rep. John Lewis:

“You cannot be afraid to speak up and speak out for what you believe. You have
to have courage, raw courage."

In this time of grief and tension, let us be safe in our actions, reflective
in our outlook, constructive in our protests, and let us find the strength to
come together for the progress of our country.
