The fight against the war on Black people continues. Stand with us.

John,

This just in -- The remaining three officers who stood by and did nothing to stop former Officer Derek Chauvin from killing George Floyd have been charged with aiding and abetting murder. And finally, Chauvin’s murder charges have been upgraded to the second-degree.1

In just two days, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison did what Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman failed to do.

This is a testament to our movement to end police violence and white supremacy. Tens of thousands of people have been rising up across the country and the world, demanding an end to the inhumane treatment of Black people in this country. More than 4 million people signed the Color Of Change petition, and tens of thousands more made phone calls, and amplified our demands on social media. Our rallying cry is clear, Black Lives Matter, invest in our communities, and defund the police.

But we still have work to do. We know that white supremacy and anti-blackness are ingrained in every level of society, and we must hold the enablers who allow the devaluing of Black lives accountable for their actions.  We’re asking you John to take the following actions, to ensure that our voices are heard and that justice is won.

Join us in continuing to fight for justice by taking the following  actions:

  1. #JusticeforBre: Demand the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor are fired. More than two months after officers murdered Breonna in her home during a botched investigation while she was sleeping, the officers have not been held accountable. Police violence against Black women often receives less attention than violence against men. We must continue to say her name and call for Breonna’s murderers to be held accountable.
  2. #JusticeforAhmaud: Demand the immediate removal of the District Attorneys who failed to bring justice for Ahmaud. District attorneys play a critical role in holding police officers accountable. For over two months, DA Jackie Johnson and George Barnhill delayed justice for Ahmaud’s family -- even going as far as to clear the McMichaels' name in the media. By failing to hold the McMichaels accountable, both DAs violated the ethics that shape their profession. DA Johnson and Barnhill must be removed.
  3. Demand Mayor Jacob Frey #DefundtheMPD. The Minneapolis Police have blood on their hands for the murder of George Floyd and all people that have been murdered by their officers. The MPD is given a budget of almost $200 million, which funds their murderous cops, militarized tactics on Black communities, and teargas on protestors. We must invest in the resources that really keep us safe and healthy, like affordable housing, jobs, mental health services, and public health approaches to keep us safe, especially in Black communities.
  4. Add your name to our list of systemic demands to end the war on Black people. The murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are not isolated incidents, but part of a much larger systemic problem. Policing is a violent institution that must end -- and it will take structural solutions to finally reform policing in this country.

Now we must stand together and fight for the collective freedom of Black people.

Until Justice is Real,

Rashad
