Representation matters, John . That’s why in 2024, as Co-Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Frontline Program, Marilyn and her Democratic colleagues fought to elect diverse voices and ensure that our government reflects the people they serve.
And their efforts paid off. With the election of Janelle Bynum as Oregon’s first Black Member of Congress and others, the 119th Congress became the most racially and ethnically diverse in U.S. history – a powerful step toward a democracy that represents all of us.
Yet, disparities remain – especially for women of color. Across the country, Black women are still underrepresented in leadership positions, face systemic barriers, and have to fight twice as hard for the recognition and opportunities they deserve. The work is far from over .
This Women’s History Month, we honor the women who have paved the way – and we invest in the women who are carrying that fight forward today. Marilyn Strickland and Janelle Bynum are not just breaking barriers; they’re building a future where leadership is truly representative.
