Like millions of people across the country, I’m devastated and outraged over the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other Black people who have been unjustly killed in the United States.
The justifiable anger and frustration felt across this country runs deep. Time and again, our leaders have failed to address institutionalized racism, especially in our criminal justice system.
During this global pandemic, which disproportionately affects people of color, the sincere pain burdening our communities of color is often too much to bear silently or alone. Communities across the country have taken to the streets to raise their voices in response to the injustices Black Americans face every day.
Today, and every day, I stand in solidarity with our Black communities—joined in the fight for justice and equality.
If you are looking for ways to channel your frustration into meaningful change, please consider donating to an organization like Race Project KC [[link removed]], a social justice project here in Kansas City, or Shirley’s Kitchen Cabinet [[link removed]] , an organization committed to amplifying the voices and power of Black women.
I am inspired by all those who are raising their voices in peaceful protest. I know we can build a more equitable and just country together, one that lives up to the highest ideals we expect of our nation.
In solidarity,
Sharice
