Palestinians sit at a large table surrounded by the rubble of destroyed homes and buildings as they gather for iftar, the fast-breaking meal, on the first day of Ramadan in Rafah.
Ramadan is a time of fasting, prayer and reflection, observed with family and loved ones. But for children in places like Gaza and Sudan, war, hunger, displacement and destruction will overshadow this sacred time of worship and community.
In Gaza, over half a million people — 20% of whom are children — returned to northern Gaza to find their homes destroyed. They continue to lack access to basic services, including shelter, food and clean water.
In Sudan, the lives of hundreds of thousands of children are at risk, with the most recent food security report showing famine is spreading after nearly two years of conflict.
While children in these countries will experience a Ramadan like no other, this sacred month is a powerful reminder of the values that unite us all: generosity, compassion and community. It's a time to look inward, give thanks and put the needs of others first.
As winter took hold in Gaza, displaced families struggled to protect themselves from cold rain and lower temperatures. Save the Children distributed mattresses, pillows and warm blankets along with winter clothing. We also provided food kits to help families save money for plastic sheets and additional materials that prevent their tents from leaking.
These are just a few examples of how we help children caught in conflict and disaster. In times of crisis, we all must do what we can to help those who are suffering.
Your donation today can help ensure children sleep safely, have enough to eat, are protected from disease and so much more. Give now. >>
