John,
Gun violence is a crisis that is impacting communities from coast to coast, on a near-daily basis. Now more than ever, we need answers and solutions -- not the same tired excuses that get thrown around after every mass shooting.
Congress has a chance to act on some of these solutions -- passing universal background checks, providing funding for gun violence research, and more -- and we have to channel our grief into action to demand that they do so.
Earlier this year, Matt was proud to vote for critical gun violence prevention bills that would save lives. But since February, those bills have been sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk.
No matter how difficult it might be, we cannot be jaded by years of inaction. There are simply too many lives at stake for us to accept tragedies like these as unpreventable occurrences.
The powerful gun lobby has controlled this debate for decades, and we need to reclaim it. This is far more than just a gun issue anymore -- this is a public health crisis, and it’s past time that we treat it as such.
Thanks for speaking out,
-- Team Cartwright
