What We're Reading The Enduring Power of Affirmations "I’ve seen teachers, with a simple adjustment and a few fresh ideas, rediscover how transformative this small shift back to affirmations can be. When teachers consistently notice and affirm their students, it creates a ripple effect, which promotes enthusiasm, belonging, and a positive feeling by everyone in the classroom." By Cheryl Abla at Edutopia LGBTQ history videos find new home after PBS pulls content due to Trump executive orders "The short films draw on material from the city’s LGBTQ-focused curriculum, part of a series called “Hidden Voices” that seeks to elevate a broad range of underrepresented groups students learn about in their social studies classrooms." By Alex Zimmerman at Chalkbeat Don’t Teach Your Students to be Passive Observers of Social Injustice "Are we offering young people the tools, skills, and opportunities they need to disrupt and intervene in the injustices they see? Or are we merely providing them the means to passively observe and critique from the sidelines?" By Aaliyah El-Amin, Scott Seider, & Julia Bott at ASCD Climate Justice Retreat for Educators ACT NOW!
