We’ve poured over the data, and Donald Trump could further reshape the judiciary by appointing 300 right-wing judges during his second term.
John, did you see Demand Justice’s work mentioned in The Guardian this week?
Demand Justice just published a brand new resource that helps answer questions like: Who currently controls the powerful federal courts of appeals? How many judges could Trump and Senate Republicans install this year? What about the rest of his term?
In short, Donald Trump is poised to reshape the judiciary by potentially appointing 300+ right-wing judges during his second term:
- There are 54 current and known future judicial vacancies across the country primed for right-wing appointments;
- Nearly 250 judges who are or will be eligible for "senior status" by 2028 could step aside while they continue to work, allowing Trump to appoint new right-wing judges to replace them.
We expect his judicial nominations to begin any day now, and he will no doubt try to fill empty seats on courts with far-right extremists who will be loyal to him instead of the Constitution — especially since his administration is already ignoring and threatening judges who have ruled against him.
Trump’s appointments will cement and expand a MAGA majority across our courts for decades to come, dangerously shifting the balance of power in Trump’s favor.
Demand Justice PAC is directly fighting back against these far-right nominees and ensuring our courts work for ALL of us: will you fuel our work with $5 or more right now?
