Urge Governor Youngkin to Protect Healthcare Access in Virginia
John,
The 2025 General Assembly session wrapped up on February 22nd, and we’ve been in the Governor’s Action window since then. After each legislative session ends, the Governor has 30 days to take action on each bill by signing it into law, vetoing it, or doing nothing - which means that the bill would automatically become law. This year, that 30-day deadline is Monday, March 24th at 11:59 PM.
March 24th is approaching quickly, and Governor Youngkin has not yet taken any action on House Bill 2769 [[link removed]] , which would prohibit insurance companies who issue life and health insurance from discriminating against people who use pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention. When insurance companies restrict access to insurance by denying, discontinuing, or limiting the amount or duration of coverage, both individual health and public health are impacted. A lack of adequate insurance coverage can create barriers to accessing necessary and life-saving healthcare, including medications like PrEP. Passing this bill into law would ensure that those who are often disproportionately affected by HIV, including those in the LGBTQ+ community, are able to receive the healthcare they need to live healthy and productive lives.
Governor Youngkin needs to hear from Virginians like you about why this bill needs to become law. Click the button below to take action and send the Governor an email telling him to sign HB 2769!
