It’s no surprise to me that a Republican California Assemblymember is attempting to make California a voter ID state [ [link removed] ]. This isn’t the first time. It isn’t even a surprise that he is trying to use voter ID laws to move California to the right. That’s what they were invented for. What does surprise me is this:
How is it possible, in 2025, that half of California Democrats support voter ID laws? I was filled with fury and despair when I read this, before I was filled with my usual emotion- determination. Every single demographic in America other than landed white male gentry has had to fight for the right to vote and every. single. demographic. has. won. I hope, earnestly and fervently, that Californians see the light and do not allow voter ID laws to pass, for the sake of every voter in California but also for the sake of the country- if California enacts voter ID laws, it will be much more difficult for the few remaining non-voter ID states to continue to resist.
Our democracy is under attack right now. The last thing we need is another huge blow to the Constitution and the most fundamental right of every democracy- the right to vote.
Do the right thing, California.
