Lander demands Cuomo turn his $5 million book payment over to New York State, to help cover the $60 million he has cost taxpayers.
— March 18, 2025
Five years ago this week, with the pandemic surging, Cuomo met with Penguin Random House to secure a $5M book deal on his pandemic “leadership.” The book was written by taxpayer-funded staff of the Governor’s Office, during work hours. Cuomo’s legal issues, including sexual harassment and lying about Covid nursing home deaths, have cost taxpayers $60 million.

John, do you have this on your bookshelf?

I didn't think so. This book was written by Andrew Cuomo's taxpayer-funded staff during work hours. Five years ago this week, with the pandemic surging, Cuomo first met with Penguin Random House to secure a $5 million deal for this autobiography on "leadership."
The book glorifies Cuomo’s “leadership” and undercounts the thousands of elderly New Yorkers who died after Cuomo ignored CDC guidelines and sent them to their deaths in nursing homes.

That’s why I rallied outside of Penguin Random House’s NYC office to demand that Cuomo returns that $5 million as a down payment on the $60 million in taxpayer funds that he owes New Yorkers. Will you add your name to our petition right now? [[link removed]]

New Yorkers are tired of lies and corruption. Instead of being used as Cuomo’s personal piggy bank, this taxpayer money could be used to fund:
* 9,000 afterschool slots
* 2,000 new preK slots
* 66,000 new summer youth employment slots
* 1,000 domestic violence shelter beds
* 2,400 supportive housing units.
If Cuomo was comfortable misusing taxpayer dollars to sign a book deal and defend himself in his personal legal scandals, how can we trust him with the City’s money?
Sign on right now and join me in this call for Andrew Cuomo to return $60 million to New York taxpayers: [[link removed]]
