John, it’s Maine Governor Janet Mills.

Last month, I traveled to Washington to take part in a bipartisan meeting of governors at the White House. Instead of a constructive dialogue on how to move our country forward, Donald Trump derailed our meeting and threatened to deny Maine school children federal funding unless we fall in line with his personal demands. He even stated that he was "the law,” never mind Congress or the states.

I told him we’d see him in court.

Trump campaigned on bringing down the price of eggs, bread, heat, housing, and cars. But just two months in, instead of focusing on issues that matter, he’s threatening to use the federal budget to punish his enemies.

Let me be clear: I will not be intimidated by the President’s threats and neither will my fellow Democratic governors who are fighting for progress across the country.

The work to push back against Trump and his agenda begins in the states with Dem govs. So I’m asking today, can you add your name to stand with Democratic governors as we work to defend our rights and freedoms?

My state and states across the country are being threatened by a wannabe strongman in the White House who is playing games with federal funding.

Democratic governors are sending an unmistakable message: we will not be bullied. But Trump isn’t planning on backing down. That means we need to build up our momentum here, at the state level. Democratic governors are on the frontline in the fight for democracy.
